Overview

The Maidment Theatre can seat 407, 415 or 448 depending on the configuration of the forestage. The auditorium is an attractive, air-conditioned space with good acoustics and clear views of the stage from every seat.

This versatile theatre caters for a wide range of events ranging from intimate presentations to epic productions. The forestage offers a variety of performance modes including an orchestra pit and thrust stage.

The Maidment Theatre hosts a diverse programme of local, national and international events. Since 1998 Auckland Theatre Company have been presenting drama productions at the Maidment Theatre. Our other clients include the Auckland Festival, Black Grace, Indian Ink Theatre Company, Tempo Dance Festival and a variety of community and University events including revues, graduation ceremonies and special lectures.

Flat access is available in certain sections of the stalls with provision for wheelchairs and a hearing aid loop.

The Maidment Theatre is a member of the Entertainment Venues Association of New Zealand (EVANZ).

Stage area and curtains

The forestage offers a variety of options including an orchestra pit, additional seating or a thrust stage. The stage can be dressed in a traditional proscenium style or completely stripped to reveal a warehouse-like simplicity. The rear brick wall of the stage is painted black.
